  • Enabling in-database advanced analytics with Sybase IQ
There is a great deal of discussion right now about advanced analytics, predictive analytics and in-database analytics. What are these? How does advanced analytics (which we take to include, but not be limited to, predictive analytics) differ from normal analytics? Why should you care? If you are interested in what it can offer, why might you want to implement inside a database (data warehouse) rather than conventionally?
Moreover, if that is the case, what should you do about it and what sorts of facilities and capabilities should you be looking for from vendors?
These are the questions we are going to seek to answer in this paper, with specific reference to the capabilities provided by Sybase IQ.
However, before we discuss the advantages (or otherwise) of enabling advanced analytics through in-database processing, we need to understand analytics within a business context.

  • Citrix - Mobile and Offline Application Access
According to a recent IDC study, roughly 42% of users who are adopting virtualisation need applications in situations where they do not have connectivity to a network. A widely held belief is that Citrix XenApp can only be used via a network connection. But things have changed. With hosted and local application virtualisation, XenApp-delivered applications can be utilised when offline. Imagine using an application delivered via XenApp when you are on an airplane, train, in a mine, or anywhere else at times you do not have connectivity

  • VMware - Understanding Full Virtualisation, Paravirtualisation, and Hardware Assist
In 1998, VMware figured out how to virtualise the x86 platform, once thought to be impossible, and created the market for x86 virtualisation. The solution was a combination of binary translation and direct execution on the processor that allowed multiple guest OSes to run in full isolation on the same computer with readily affordable virtualisation overhead.

  • Symantec - IT Budget Strategy in a Down Economy: Stop Buying Storage!
The current recessionary economic cycle has introduced a great deal of uncertainty into the business climate. Organizations are reluctant to spend any more money than absolutely necessary, which has limited or delayed the acquisition of IT equipment that otherwise might have been routine. Forecasts vary widely for the depth and length of any recession, but it is clear that 2009/2010 budgets are uncertain at best and hedged against a prolonged downturn.
