DNM Technology - Business Intelligence Seminar

Sunday, April 05, 2009

"In our experience, those companies that utilise the data in their organisation intelligently are more likely to survive and indeed thrive in the current economic climate," says Paul Raleigh, managing partner of Grant Thornton.

There have, however, been a couple of barriers to the adoption of the necessary technology. Firstly, the cost is perceived as prohibitive and secondly, the technology is sometimes viewed as a luxury, given that each application on it s own has a reporting function. "That's why we were delighted when DNM Technology and Microsoft approached us with a proposal to run a seminar for our business leaders, to debunk both those myths," says Raleigh.

DNM has been a leader in all areas of securing, managing and utilising data from databases to infrastructure management to virtualisation and business intelligence.

DNM Technology's chief executive David Quirke takes up the story. "We noticed a couple of trends over the years. Firstly, the volume of application data has grown exponentially. Secondly, the technology has evolved to allow easy data extraction from most systems. Businesses are sitting on a gold mine of untapped information. I have spent many years in senior roles in North America where Business Intelligence is used for all aspects of a business's life cycle. Most businesses 'run the numbers' before taking a decision and you can be sure they don't wait for the management accounts," said Quirke.

Bill O'Brien, business manager, Server Group, Microsoft said: "Over the last few years, our workshops revealed that the biggest issue senior managers face is the connection of their corporate strategy to the operations of the business."

"Our BI suite will not only traffic light a scorecard based on the aggregated performance of the underlying business, it will also allow you to drill to the individual transactions."

DNM, Grant Thornton and Microsoft are running a breakfast Performance Management Accelerator seminar in Dublin on April 21.

This promises to be a particularly interesting seminar as Ivan Yates is the keynote speaker, and the director of finance for Microsoft EMEA, Ken Hickey, will demonstrate how Microsoft uses its Business Intelligence solutions in integrated planning, budget and operations management.
